Nigerian military personnel and leader, Gen. Oladipo Diya, is dead.
Oyesinmilola Diya, confirmed the death of the general in a statement signed on behalf of the family.
According to Oyesinmilola, the late general died in the early hours of Sunday, March 26, 2023.
The Nigerian general, who hails from Odogbolu with full name: Donaldson Oladipo Diya, was born on April 3, 1944.
He served as Chief of the General Staff, a position equivalent to being Vice President of Nigeria) under military head of state, General Sani Abacha from 1994 until his arrest for treason in 1997.
Prior to serving under the Abacha regime, Diya was the Chief of Defence Staff and was Military Governor of Ogun State from January 1984 to August 1985.
While burial and funeral arrangements remain sketchy, condolence messages since the announcement have continued to trickle in from big wigs within Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
