Redzie Jugo, the Executive Director of the organisation made the call at a memorial organised in honour of thirty persons killed on Oct. 2017 at Nikendoro Community in Teagbe District of Iregwe Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was organised in Miango, Bassa, as part of activities commemorating the National Day of Mourning in the state.
It was alleged that the thirty residents were killed by gunmen after some military personnel deployed to secure the community took them into a classroom for safety.
Jugo, who is also demanding justice for the slain villagers, particularly called on the military authority to investigate the incident with a view of bringing any personnel found complacent to book.
He insisted that such move would not only sanitise the military, but would further build the confidence of the civil populace on the security agencies.
”We stand today to make a very clear statement to President Bola Tinubu and the CDS to ask for justice for those who were gruesomely murdered in this community in 2017.
”Since then, the people have come out with a clear voice that the military personnel were complacent in the incident.
”We are not asking for much, but calling on the military authority to constitute a special panel to investigate the allegation in order to ascertain those behind it.
”We commend the good work the military and other security agencies are doing in ensuring the safety of our people, but we are calling on the authority to expunge all bad eggs from the system.
”The war against terrorism will not stop unless the military do away with all the bad guys within the system who are tarnishing its good image,”he said.
Jugo also called on the Federal Government to adequately compensate families whose loved ones were among the deceased persons, adding that such move would give them a sense of belonging.
The executive director, however, lauded the military for the disciplinary action recently taking on some erring soldiers, insisting that it would serve as deterrent to others.
Speaking, Mr Isaiah Ishe, the District Head of Teagbe, thanked the organisation for identifying with his community since 2017.
He called on the government and the security agencies to provide adequate security for the people, particularly during the farming season.
”We are in dire need of peace; we are farmers and we want to go to our farms because that’s our major source of livelihood.
”Government cannot meet all our needs, but we want a peaceful atmosphere where we can carry out our farming activities without intimidation,”he said.
NAN reports that organisation also mounted a signpost at the centre of the community with the names and ages of the thirty. (NAN)
