Man, 45, arraigned over alleged assault on police officer

Ado-Ekiti, Feb.3, 2026(NAN) A 45-year old man, Olarinde Gboyega, was on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault on a police officer.
Gboyega whose address was not given, is being charged with assault and breach of peace, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant and others now at large, committed the offence at about 2.30p.m on Jan. 30 at, Ado-Ekiti.
Apata said that the defendant and his accomplices seriously assaulted a police officer, ACP Rose Okoronko, while she was performing her lawful duties.
The prosecutor further said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace.
He said that the offence contravened Section 187(a) and (b) and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Apata prayed the court to grant a short adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble witnesses.
The Defence Counsel, Mrs Kuburat Faleye, urged the court to admit her client to bail, and assured that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until March 3 for hearing.(NAN)
