The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) says no fewer than 64 members of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) were trained on tour packages and marketing in 2023.
Alhaji Nura Kangiwa, the Director-General of NIHOTOUR, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.
Kangiwa said that those trained had been issued NIHOTOUR certificates.
Kangiwa said that the training was geared towards the enhancement of effective service delivery in the hospitality and tourism sectors.
He further said that the training offered several significant advantages as well as served various purposes, making it valuable for travelers in different situations.
According to him, marketing tour packages would help in the sale of tour products and services in a way that would attract customers and boost business.
“The training also includes modules on best practices in tour guiding, sales strategies, travel computer reservation systems, and tour package marketing, among others.
“The 64 NATOP members have been licensed, and they have started practicing tour operators from states in the North East, North West, and North Central, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
“After the training, the trainees were presented with NIHOTOUR certificates as evidence that they were actually participants in the training,” he said.
NAN reports that NATOP is a leading tour operator trade and professional association in Nigeria, with members across the 36 states of Nigeria and FCT.(NAN)
