Enugu, Sept. 4, 2025 (NAN) The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Enugu State has commended Gov. Peter Mbah for approving the 2023/2024 senior staff promotion of the local government service.

The union commended him for his administration’s unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare, particularly in the council areas.

This is contained in a statement by the NULGE President, Udoagha Ani, on Thursday in Enugu.

Ani described the governor’s recent approval as a clear demonstration of his sensitivity, and prioritising the needs and welfare of workers, even in the grassroots.

According to him, workers form the backbone of service delivery in the state, and the approval shows the governor’s uncommon commitment to fairness and improved welfare for local government staff.

The NULGE president recalled that Mbah had previously heeded the union’s appeal for the implementation of ₦30,000 minimum wage and its consequential adjustment for local government employees.

“This has placed us at par with our counterparts in the state civil service. Before Mbah’s administration, local government workers were not fully benefiting from the national wage policy.

“The decision reinforces the governor’s determination to eliminate disparity in workers’ welfare across various services in the state.

“The governor also approved a comprehensive staff verification, which has significantly enhanced efficiency and transparency within the local government system.

“The exercise has recorded tremendous successes in strengthening accountability and productivity in the workforce.

“Mbah’s pronouncement on the implementation of a new ₦80,000 minimum wage for workers, surpassing the ₦70,000 approved by the Federal Government is groundbreaking.

“The leadership of the union and local government workers of Enugu State, unreservedly, pass a vote of confidence in the governor’s uncommon leadership style,” he said.

Ani pledged the union’s continued support for Mbah’s administration, assuring that NULGE would remain a reliable partner in advancing the welfare of local government employees and the overall development of the state.

The president equally applauded the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), led by Nana Ogbodo, for its critical role in pushing through the reforms that culminated in the promotion’s approval. (NAN)
