Scavenger arraigned for assaulting officers

Abuja, Jan. 22, 2026 (NAN) A scavenger, Amaar Ibrahim, 18, who allegedly assaulted some police officers, on Thursday, was arraigned before an Asokoro Magistrates’ Court in Abuja.

Ibrahim, who resides at Area 1, Pantaker in the Abuja metropolis, was charged with joint act and assault, punishable under sections 79 and 265 of the Penal Code.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Earlier, the prosecutor, R. O. Muhammad, told the court that one Shade Adeyemi of Area 1, Abuja, on Jan. 13, reported a case of theft and assault involving the defendant

Muhammad said that when the police went to arrest the defendant, he planned with some of his friends, who are now at large, to attack the officers with knives, sticks and other weapons.

According to him, they inflicted injuries on the officers.

The Magistrate, Mr Abdulmajeet Oniyangi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million  with one surety in like sum.

Oniyangi ordered that the address of the surety must be verified and adjourned the case till Feb. 16 for hearing. (NAN)
