SWAN Cup 2021 to kick-off Dec.5, says Chairman

Debo Osundun, the Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos Chapter, on Thursday said that the 2021 edition of SWAN Cup will kick off on Dec. 5.

He said this at a press briefing in Lagos to herald the competition which would once again bring together sports enthusiasts in the reporting business together as a family to have fun.

He said that three events such as football, scrabble and table tennis would be competed for among participating teams.

“We are here once again for the start of an amazing experience when we all come together for the Lagos SWAN Cup.

“This competition is a symbolic event when sports writers, sports casters, bloggers and those in sports reporting business gather together to practice what they preach.

“The 2021 edition is symbolic and of great importance after the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the world in 2020.

“We could not hold last year’s edition because of the global lockdown as occasioned by COVID-19, we are excited that we are gradually getting our lives back,” Oshudun said.

He added that a gala award night would be held on Dec. 10, where past chairmen would be honoured and will have the executive Gov. Of Lagos, Babajide-Sanwo-Olu, as a special guest.

“We are excited to announce that leading sports betting company, BET9JA, has returned as the headline sponsor for this year’s event as our relationship continues to wax stronger.

“We need to thank them specially for their continued support which means a lot to us as an association,” he said.

In the same vein, Aisha Adams, Bet9ja representative, told reporters that the company is proud to be a part of the sports fraternity’s competition.

She said that it is a great partnership in progress and can only wish everybody a successful event,” she said.

The participating teams in the football event include, Group A Unilag Media, TVC, VON, Pooja Media. Group B –  Community Watch Multimedia FC, NAN, Jordan FM. Group C – Complete Sports, Lasgidi FC, Radio Nigeria, and Megalectrics. (NAN)
