First-class honors graduates of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, have been offered employment opportunities as the institution marked its maiden convocation, tagged “Convoking a Galaxy of Trinity Stars,” on Friday.
The breakdown in the 2021-2022 academic session had two students with first class in the Faculty of Basic Medical and Applied Sciences (B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science), one in Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (B.Sc. Degree in Mass Communication),
Also in the first-class category in the 2022–2023 session were five outstanding graduates who obtained a certificate in B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science under the Faculty of Basic Medical and Applied Sciences.
Three first-class degrees in microbiology, three in business administration, three in mass communication, and three in international relations and political science.
The ceremony was attended by Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, wife of a former Oyo State governor, and Dr. John Obaro, a notable technology entrepreneur, who were conferred and decorated with honorary doctorate degrees.
Speaking at the combined maiden convocation of the university, Prof. Clement Kolawole, acting vice chancellor of the institution, said that 31 percent of the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 students made it into the first-class division.
He added that 46 percent of the recorded Second Class Upper and 23 percent were in the Second Class Lower division, respectively.
The Trinity University Vice-Chancellor stated that Miss Okpala Chidera, with a CGPA of 4.85, emerged as the best graduating student in the 2021–2022 set, as did Miss Adewunmi Oyindamola, with a CGPA of 4.88, in the 2022–2023 academic session.
“These graduates and others demonstrated their ability and willingness to profit from the services, academic, social, and religious, to which the university exposed them,” he added.
Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Samuel Adedoyin, said the honor given to Ajumobi and Obaro was a mark of recognition of their immense contributions to society and their fields of endeavour.
“In essence, we are bringing them on board into our community so that together, we will join hands in nurturing the future generation to bring about the nation of our dreams.
“And to the graduates, note that you are pioneers and trailblazers who have set the standard for excellence that will inspire generations to come.
“And as you step into this phase of your lives, carry the value of the Trinity with you and a relentless pursuit of knowledge,” he added.
Meanwhile, Odubela Lawrita, the best graduating student with a 4.60 CGPA in Mass Communication (Mass Communication), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that she commends the institution for creating an enabling environment to attain success.
“It was a wonderful experience being a student of this great institution, and on my achievement as best in Mass Communication, I really burned the night candle, and my parents and lecturers were there for me,” she said. (NAN)
