Kano Rep secures release of 105 prison inmates

danburan nuhuMember, House of Representatives, representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Dr. Danburan Abubakar Nuhu has said that since assuming office last year, he secured the release of one hundred and five inmates from prisons in the state.
He stated this while launching a youth empowerment programme for 801 beneficiaries in his constituency in Kano State today.
According to him, he found it fit to settle the fines of some inmates languishing in prison  over a long period of time and unable to pay the fine for their respective offences, adding that their condition is sympathetic as most of them committed petty offences.
He added that the inmates were since freed and reunited with their respective families.
He said that 700 youths got N10,000 each as economic support to establish small-scale businesses, adding that tricycles and motorcycles were also distributed as a means to enable some of the beneficiaries fend for their families.
He revealed that the idea behind launching the empowerment programme came at the heels of the current economic hardship in the country, adding that the programme would help in alleviating fierce poverty among the people.
He said, other items distributed includemsewing machines. ”As you are aware, budget is yet to be signed but we found it fit to come up with this programme looking at the current economic situation in the country. I just use what I have at hand to help my people.”
He further said that he was able to pass six motions at the National Assembly, adding that one of the six motions has been passed into law.
He stressed that the main purpose of a legislator was to serve his people, vowing to deliver just and honest representation at the federal level.
