The police on Wednesday charged two people before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan over alleged shop breaking and theft.
The defendants, Samuel John, 20; and Mary Samuel, 41, whose addresses were not provided are standing trial on a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, shop breaking, theft and receiving stolen property.
The first defendant pleaded guilty to the charges while the second defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp Olalekan Adegbite alleged that the defendants committed the offences on June 6, at Ido garage in Ibadan.
Adegbite said John broke into the shop of one Mrs Titilayo Adeosun and one Funmilayo Olawale located at the garage.
He alleged that the first defendant, stole six packs of seaman worth N12, 000, four packs of Chelsea dry gin worth N8, 800, and two packs of action bitter worth N9,000, belonging to Adeosun.
Adegbite said he also stole one bowl of pepper worth N25, 000 belonging to Olawale.
The prosecutor alleged that the second defendant received stolen goods such as pepper, groundnut oil and palm oil worth N72,000 from the first defendant, knowing that same were stolen.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9), 413, 427 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Kausarat Ayofe granted the second defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one reliable surety in like sum and adjourned until Aug.25, for hearing.
Meanwhile, the court ordered a remand of the first defendant at the correctional centre and adjourned the case until June 16, for review of facts.. (NAN)
