The bills to amend the Sokoto State and Local Government Audit Laws 2020 on Tuesday passed second reading at the State House of Assembly.
The two executive Bills were forwarded to the Assembly by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal in a letter addressed to the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Achida, and presented at plenary.
Requesting for the consideration, the Leader of the Assembly, Alhaji Malami Basakkwace (PDP) said that the amendments would strengthen the functions of the Auditors-General.
“The amendment is in order to strengthen the function and powers, provide for tenure of office of the Auditors-General at State and Local Governments,” he said.
The bills were unanimously accepted by the lawmakers in a voice vote presided over by the Speaker.
He referred the amendment to the Assembly’s Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-corruption for scrutiny, to report back to the House for further legislative action.
In another development, Gov. Tambuwal has approved the appointment of Hamza Gatawa as the substantive Secretary to the Sokoto State House of Assembly Service Commission.
This is contained in a confirmation letter made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Sokoto.
Tambuwal said that the appointment followed the recommendation by the Commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Gwadabawa, which is in line with the provision of the commission’s law.
