Abeokuta, March 25, 2026 (NAN) The police on Wednesday, dragged two men, before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing and receiving stolen property.
The defendants are: Tomiwa Adegoke, 24; and Saibu Ahmed, 45.
The duo whose addresses were not provided, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing a compressor, and receiving of stolen property.
They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Evelyn Motim, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 16, at about 7:30 p.m. at the Saje area of Abeokuta.
She alleged that the defendants conspired with others now at large, to steal a compressor belonging to a company called Eco Gas Energy Resource.
According to her, Adegoke, an employee of the company, had allegedly entered the pump house of the company, to steal the compressor valued N500,000.
She alleged that Ahmed, on the other hand, received the stolen compressor from Adegoke, knowing it was a stolen item.
The prosecutor alleged that the first defendant sold the compressor to the second defendant who deals on scrap, for the sum of N6,000.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 383, 390, 427 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Sam-Obaleye, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
She consequently, adjourned the case until April 17, for trial. (NAN)
