2 men docked for stealing 100 area council leaflets worth N350,000

Two men were on Thursday docked in a Magistrates’ Court in for allegedly stealing 100 area council leaflets worth N350,000.

The police charged Emmanuel Yamson, 34, and Alele Ojehomon, a farmer, with criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko told the court that the complainant, Abubakar Abbas of Phase I Gwagwalada, FCT,  at the police station on Dec. 23, 2021.

Tanko said that the defendants on Dec. 23, 2021 in company of one Samuel Conto, now at large conspired and trespassed into the room of the complainant.

He said that the defendants also stole N500,000.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 97, 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Defence Counsel, Isaac Adakole, prayed the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms, citing sections 158 and 162 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), to buttress his claims for bail.

Adakole said that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the law, adding that the defendants would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Punarimam Balogun admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She ordered that the sureties must provide their means of identification.

She adjourned the case until March 9 for hearing. (NAN)
