2 men docked over alleged N3m fraud

Two men, Umar Altine and Munir Sani, were on Tuesday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates Court, Wuse, Abuja, over alleged fraud of N3 million.

Altine and Sani are being charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Chinenye Okafor told the court that the complainant, Mohammed Haruna, reported the matter at the Area Command, Maitama, Abuja on July 9.

Okafor stated that sometime in June, Sani connived with Altine to hack the complainant’s bank account.

She further said that the defendants fraudulently bought cryptocurrency worth N3 million from the complainant’s account.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The Defence Counsel, J.C. Adeyanju prayed the court to admit the defendants to bail.

Adeyanju urged the court to exercise discretion in favor of the defendants and grant them bail in the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Hafsat Amiru granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties must reside and work within the court’s jurisdiction.

Amiru further ordered that the sureties must provide means of identification.

She adjourned the matter until Sept.15 for hearing.(NAN).
