The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Sokoto State Branch has commended the security agencies for their bravery in combating banditry and related terrorist activities across the nation.
Its Mr Mohammed Nuhu, made the commendation while delivering a communique at the conclusion of the 2024 Law Week activities in Sokoto on Wednesday.
Nuhu emphasised the importance of security agencies intensifying their efforts to ensure a crime-free society in Nigeria.
“Enhanced coordination and cooperation among security agencies are crucial for the just and prompt administration of justice, thereby averting conflicting policies that undermine justice delivery in Nigeria,” he remarked.
Nuhu stressed the necessity for the security agencies to maintain public trust by promptly addressing complaints, ensuring proper victim protection, and fostering a reliable relationship with the populace for effective criminal investigation
He identified corruption as a significant factor perpetuating insecurity in Nigeria, emphasising the need for stringent adherence to professionalism to combat this menace effectively.
“It is imperative for various professional bodies involved in governance to unite in combating corruption, tribalism, and related offenses, thereby propelling Nigeria towards progress and liberation from oppressive forces,” Nuhu stressed.
The chairman underscored the pivotal role of professionalism in nation-building, warning of dire consequences in its absence.
Furthermore, Nuhu highlighted the NBA’s recognition of the necessity for continuous on-the-job training for legal professionals and judiciary staff in Nigeria.
He said, “This is to enhance their proficiency in science and technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and globalization.”
