The Lagos State police command has confirmed the arrest of 23 individuals suspected of being involved in electoral violence and other crimes during the presidential and national assembly elections held on Saturday.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the figure of arrests may increase as the command was still collating the number of suspects arrested in different divisions during the exercise.
It was reported that hoodlums and unknown gunmen attacked some polling units and disrupted the elections in the Mafoluku area, burning ballot papers that had been thumb-printed.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Idowu Owohunwa, told newsmen on Saturday that there were pockets of violence in some parts of the state. He noted that some persons were arrested, and the number of arrests made would be made known to the public.
The police command in Lagos has assured the public that all those involved in the electoral violence and other crimes will be brought to book and made to face the full weight of the law.
