Three men, Ikechukwu Anyanwu, Miracle Uwa, and Michael Emmanuel, who allegedly burgled a residence and stole home appliances worth N1.2 million, were on Wednesday arraigned by the police.
The defendants, Anyanwu, 19; Uwa, 20; and Emmanuel, 22, are standing trial before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, burglary, and stealing.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendants conspired with others still at large and committed the offences on Dec. 31, 2024, at the Ajangbadi area of Ojo in Lagos.
He said that the defendants burgled the house and stole items belonging to two occupants, one Mr. Monday Ogbekhilu and one Mr. Solomon Benson.
According to him, the defendants stole from Ogbekhilu a cash sum of N335,000, a manual grinding machine valued at N28,000, a pressing iron valued at N15,000, and a face cap and handbag valued at N22,000.
Other items stolen from Ogbekhilu include a T-shirt and short jeans valued at N42,000.
He said the total value of the items stolen from Ogbekhilu was N420,000.
The prosecutor said the defendants also stole four pieces of Nissan pickup tires, a sewing machine, iron rods, pressing iron, a pumping machine, a wheelbarrow, two motor batteries, and an iron gate belonging to Benson.
He said the total value of the items stolen from Benson’s apartment was valued at N800,000.
The offences contravene Sections 287, 307, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Mr. L.K.J. Layeni admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 5 for mention. (NAN)
