
As part of activities to save the lives of drivers and passengers across the country especially during this ember months, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has flagged off a one-week free for offenders nationwide campaign.
The Zonal Commander officer RS 5 Benin Mr. Wole Olaniran ESQ (ACM) said that FRSC mounted a vigorous public enlightenment campaign so as to educate the populace on desirable road ethics for a crash – free society, while calling on members of the public to embrace the arms of partnership that is being extended by the FRSC.
Speaking with journalists in Asaba, Mr Olaniran represented by the Zonal Public Education officer, Mr. Julius Emmanuel stated that the Corps is engaged in the public enlightenment in order to appeal to the conscience and attitudinal change behind the steering by drivers and to ensure outright enforcement and compliance.
According to him, the free one week Campaign is for public enlightenment without booking or asking motorists to pay fine for offence committed, that the FRSC need a change from the motorists adding that they should obey the rules and regulations in order to achieve and prevent road traffic crash.
He went on to say that another reason for the campaign is to check all vehicles and find out the ones with mechanical deficiency so as to draw the attention of the driver to correct such defects.
Also the state Sector Commander Mrs Susan Ajenge , stated that the FRSC focus on change in order to put road safety issues on public agenda by influencing peoples attitudes and behaviours on the road to reduce crashes and road toll.
Some motorists who spoke in an interview with The Moment, commended the Corps for the initiative and asked for a constant repetition of the campaign exercise.
