An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Tuesday remanded two men, Opeyemi Ayinla and Abdulahi Sanni, in a correctional facility for allegedly stealing two motorcycles while armed with weapons.
Ayinla, 28; and Sanni, 25, whose addresses were not provided, were charged with conspiracy and armed robbery.
The magistrate, Mrs. Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, did not take the plea of the defendants for want of jurisdiction.
She, however, directed the police to return the case file to the office of the Director for Public Prosecution for legal advice.
She adjourned the case until Oct. 21 for mention.
The prosecutor, Insp. Oladejo Balogun, had told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 18, at 4.00 p.m, in the Amuloko area of Ibadan.
According to him, the first defendant, Ayinla, while armed with a hammer and a plank, robbed two commercial motorcyclists, Adekunle Oluranti and Adekunle Olaleye, of their motorcycles worth N920,000 and N800,000, respectively.
Balogun said that the second defendant, Sanni, on the same day received the motorcycles from Ayinla with the knowledge that the motorcycles were stolen.
He said the offences contravened Sections 1(2)(a)(b) and 5 of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria, 2004. (NAN)
