The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has conducted a sensitization campaign on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in communities hosting its ongoing projects in Niger as part of its social safeguard mandate.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the campaign was held on Saturday in Kapango and Kuta-Guyi communities in Bosso Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking during the sensitization, Hajiya Hajara Sadiq, a legal practitioner and GBV specialist, emphasized the importance of preventing gender-based violence and urged residents to report cases to the appropriate authorities.
She stressed the need for collective responsibility in protecting women, children and other vulnerable persons from abuse and exploitation.
According to her, the campaign was aimed at educating community members on measures to prevent GBV, particularly during the implementation of RAAMP projects.
“This campaign is to educate you to protect women, children and other vulnerable persons against GBV, especially as RAAMP projects are being implemented in your communities.
“Ensure that you report promptly all forms of abuse or exploitation, particularly those involving RAAMP contractors,” she said.
In his remarks, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba, District Head of Kuta-Guyi, commended the RAAMP team for the sensitization, describing it as timely and beneficial to the community.
Garba assured the project team of the community’s full support and cooperation throughout the execution of the projects.
