Okitipupa (Ondo State), July 25, 2025 (NAN) The police on Friday arraigned a 54-year-old farmer, Adeyemi Adefunwa in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of palm fruits worth N2 million.
Adefunwa, whose address was not given, is facing a three-count charge bordering on felony, forceful entering and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha told the court that the defendant and four others at large conspired to commit felony on March 15, around 10 a.m., at Ode-Aye palm plantation in Okitipupa, Okitipupa magisterial district.
The prosecutor said Adefunwa and others at large forcefully entered the palm plantation belonging to Okitipupa Oil Palm Plc and stole several palm fruit bunches valued at N2 million.
Omoyeigha added that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 516, 383 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and the Chief Magistrate, Mr Mayowa Olanipekun, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum.
Olanipekun added that the sureties, who must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.
He then adjourned the case until Aug. 12 for further hearing. (NAN)
