Epe (Lagos State), July 25, 2025 (NAN) Mr Segun Osinaike, Permanent Secretary/Tutor-General of Education District IV, in Lagos State on Friday tasked Local Government Chairmen in the state to increase education budgets and prioritise recruitment of qualified teachers in their areas’  public schools.

Osinaike made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Epe.

He said that enhanced financial commitment to education at the grassroots level remained critical to fostering career development of students and improving learning outcomes.

According to him, investing in education is a direct investment in the future of children and the socio-economic growth of communities.

“Local government areas must take proactive steps in allocating more funds to education and addressing the shortage of teachers in public schools in Lagos state,” he said.

He noted that while the  Lagos state government continued to play a central role in education, the contribution of local councils remained essential in meeting the evolving needs of schools, especially in underserved and rural areas.

Osinaike also stressed the need for regular training and capacity-building programmes for both new and existing teachers to ensure that modern pedagogical skills and technologies are effectively applied in classrooms.

He said this would help bridge the learning gap and equip students with the necessary skills to compete globally.

He further urged stronger collaboration between local government area authorities, community stakeholders, and the private sector to support infrastructure development,  provision of learning materials, and sponsorship of educational programmes for indigent students.

“The time to act is now. We must all come together to reposition the education sector for sustainable development and national transformation,” Osinaike added. (NAN)
