Lagos, July 25, 2025 (NAN) Portugal’s Fu Yu and Jieni Shao defeated Nigeria’s Kabirat Ayoola and Aishat Rabiu in a thrilling quarter-final women’s doubles match at the WTT Contender Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the five-day tournament is ongoing at Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
The Portuguese pair had earlier shown dominance by defeating Nigeria’s Favour Ojo and Kadijat Okanlawon in a previous round.
They claimed victory over Ayoola and Rabiu with a 3–1 win (11–5, 6–11, 12–10, 11–3) in the quarter-final clash.
The WTT Contender Lagos continues to attract global talent, with top players competing for the title and a share of the $100,000 prize pool.
Spectators have brought great energy, cheering their favourite players and adding excitement to the fast-paced matches.
Winners of the quarter-final ties will move a step closer to lifting the prestigious WTT Contender Lagos trophy.
Korea’s Kim Nayeona and Hanna Ryu also advanced, defeating Nigeria’s Abosede Akinsete and Abosede Odusanya in straight sets.
The Korean duo’s aggressive play proved too strong, earning a convincing 3–0 victory (11–6, 11–2, 11–6) in the quarter-final.
