Calabar, July 25, 2025 (NAN) Mr Edwin Okon, the Chairman, Cross River Internal Revenue Service (CRIRS), says Tax Identification Number (TIN) will be soon required to access public facilities in the state.
Okon stated this while addressing newsmen during a sensitisation walk around the 8th Miles area of Calabar on Friday.
He said that TIN would soon become a critical requirement for residents of the state to access healthcare and other public facilities.
The CRIRS chairman said that the essence of the walk was to sensitise Cross River people to obtain their TIN from tax offices in their neighborhood at no cost.
“The need to have a tax identification number has been expressly stated in various occasions in the nation, and there is need to implement this in Cross River,” he said.
Okon stated that tax payment was critical to the development of any society, adding,” The Cross River Revenue Service is committed to effective tax administration.”
He urged members of the public to always approach the service with relevant questions about tax issues for clarification.
“Do not give cash to anybody, make your payments through the approved government accounts. Tax revenues are meant for development, they should be paid to the right accounts.
“We shall sustain this sensitisation, the government needs more money to build more hospitals, markets, roads and other facilities for the people,” he said. (NAN)
