Maiduguri, Jan. 22, 2026(NAN)The Borno government has stressed the need for health workers to possee a positive attitude to work to boost productivity and ensure timely service delivery in hospitals.
The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Bana Gana stated this on Thursday shortly after an inspection tour of health facilities in Maiduguri.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the tour in the company of some critical stakeholders was centred on health facilities under the care of Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA).
Gana, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Shettima Mohammed, enjoined the workers to understand how their behaviour at work could affect performance.
The commissioner said that the state’s contributory scheme under the supervision of BOSCHMA was not about the enrollment of more people but the quality of service being rendered at the facility.
“I will call civil servants to rededicate their efforts and commitment. They should reciprocate the huge investment made by his excellency, the executive governor in the health sector.
“For the past three consecutive years, he has surpassed the Abuja declaration of health financing by giving more than 50 per cent of the budget with the blessings of the Borno State House of Assembly.
“So, we are expecting health workers to be more disciplined, they should reciprocate the effort of the state and be more productive, otherwise the supervisory ministry will start disciplinary action against those who are found wanting to serve as deterrents,” Gana said.
He, however, commended the commitment and dedication of BOSCHMA’s Executive Secretary, Dr Saleh Abba to achieve the desired objectives of Gov. Babagana Zulum’s administration, which is providing workers access to affordable healthcare services in the state.
“His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum is strengthening the healthcare service delivery in the state, and it is in this line that he embarked on strengthening the Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) to deliver an affordable healthcare system in the state.
“And now BOSCHMA is on course, they have now established clinics in all the key health facilities across the state and that is why today we are embarking on a visit to monitor what is going on, and honestly we are impressed, the whole system has been digitalised with efficient and effective personnel,” Gana said.
The commissioner said that the governor has also approved the formal sector enrollment into the scheme, adding that currently more than 7,000 workers have been enrolled into the scheme across the state.
“So I think, we are on track, BOSCHMA is set to provide affordable healthcare not only to the public sector but to the whole people in the state,” he added.
Also speaking, Hon. Maina Mustapha, the Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Health, expressed satisfaction with the level of development so far achieved by BOSCHMA in its clinics.
On his part, Abba said BOSCHMA had been collaborating with the Hospital management board which is providing the services.
“As you can remember we have signed a memorandum of understanding with the drug management agency and we are going to sign an additional one with the hospital management board,” he said.
The executive secretary stated that for primary healthcare, they have had an agreement since the establishment of the agency, adding that the BOSCHMA’s board had already approved N170 million for the procurement of drugs and consumables, with an additional N50 million allocated to all facilities.(NAN)
