Sule Chindo, the Chairman, Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, has ordered that the club’s players and officials should be placed on half salary for what he called their poor showing in the ongoing Globacom Premier League.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi after the club’s encounter with the Heartland of Owerri on Sunday that he was unhappy with the “steady decline of the club since the league started.’’
“The players and the officials will be on half salary until such a time that there is improvement in their performance.
“I see no reason why we cannot register goals from the numerous chances that we had in the first and second halves of the game,” he said.
NAN reports that the team had lost 0-1 to visiting Heartland FC in Sunday’s week 29 league match played at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.
Chindo had lambasted the players and the officials for failing to secure at least a draw during the match.
According to him, the team missed several scoring chances and even failed to equalise.
NAN also reports that the visitors had scored the lone goal through Uchenenna Orisekwe in the 20th minute.
The match was played in an empty stadium as part of the punishments meted to the club by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) for an alleged infraction.
Some supporters of the club had reportedly beaten up a referee, who officiated during the club’s match against El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri recently.
Wikki is currently in the 20th position with 35 points and have so far played 28 matches — they won 11, lost 15 and had two draws. (NAN)
