Convict  bags 3 months imprisonment for stealing phone

A Life Camp Magistrates’ Court  in Abuja on Tuesday, sentenced a 29-year-old man, Samuel Joshua, to a term of three months at the correctional centre for stealing phone.

The court convicted and sentenced Joshua, after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing preferred against him by the police.

The Magistrate, Best Ojukwu, consequently, sentenced the convict based on his plea and the case of the prosecution

Ojukwu however, gave the convict an option of N50,000 fine, with a warning to be of good behavior and desist from crime .

The court noted that the early plea of guilt by the convict, saved the court from prolonged trial..

Earlier, the prosecutor Charity Nwachukwu, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on May 27 .

She said that the complainant one Ms Queen Aria, who resides at Chief Palace Karimo, Abuja, had reported the matter at the Karimo Police Station.

According to her, the convict snatched the phone from the complainant at  Ekere Junction in karimo on May 14, at about 11 p.m. while she was on her way home from work .

The prosecutor told the court that the convict dragged and dishonestly made away with the complainant’s infinix Hot 50i phone valued at N170,000 .

Nwachukwu said that the convict was eventually arrested by the police.

She said that during investigation by the police , it was discovered that the convict was a habitual offender.

It was also discovered that he had sold the phone for the sum of N25,000.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 287 of the Penal Code.(NAN)
