Police detain alleged murder suspect in Anambra

Onitsha (Anambra), Feb. 19, 2026 (NAN) The Police Command in Anambra said it has detained a 52-year-old man who was handed over to the command by soldiers of the 302 Artillery Regiment, Onitsha.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the detention in a statement to newsmen  on Thursday in Onitsha.

Ikenga explained that the detention was in connection with ongoing investigation into a case of conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, grievous bullet injuries and murder in Urum Community in Awka North Local Government Area (LGA)

According to him, the suspect allegedly conspired with others currently at large, to sponsor armed men for a violent ambush along the road in Urum, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.

He said that during interrogation, the suspect who mentioned some names, confessed that the sum of ₦500,000 was paid to hire four gunmen from Ayamelum LGA of the state.

The PRO noted that the suspect was currently undergoing interrogation and investigations were still ongoing .

He said that the command had intensified efforts to apprehend other suspects at large, and assured members of the public that further developments would be communicated in due course.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that justice is served.  (NAN)
