Police on Tuesday, charged two security guards, Saidu Salihu and Salihu Dudu before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, over  alleged theft of building materials belonging to their employer.

Salihu, 65; and Dauda,18, both residents of Mpape village in Abuja, are standing trial on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy and theft by servant.

They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that a complainant, one Mr Okoi Wofai, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on March 9.

She alleged that the complainant employed the defendants and one Umar now at large, as security guards in the Estate.

According to her, the defendants dishonesty made away with one Geepee tank, valued N280,000, five bags of cement valued N57,500, P.O.P Cement worth N99,000 and quantities of tiles which value is yet to be determined.

She added that the defendants sold all stolen items worth N 436,500 to one Kan-giwa also now at large as well as to scavengers.

The prosecutor said that during investigation by the police, the defendants made confessional statements, but all efforts to recover the stolen items proved abortive.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 97 and 289 of the Panel Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo, granted  the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 18, for hearing. (NAN)
