A 59-year old man, Lukman Adeniyi, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged N30 million fraud.
Adeniyi whose address was not given, is facing a one-count charge of fraud, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Josephine Ikhayere told the court that Adeniyi committed the offence on Nov. 22, 2025, at the Command Special Squad II, Lagos State Police Headquarters, Ikeja.
Ikhayere said that the defendant, intentionally perverted the course of justice by taking an accused person, Abubakar Abdullahi on police administrative bail.
She said that Abdullahi was involved in a case of alleged obtaining under false pretense and stealing of N30 million from the complainant, Godwin Ogodinur.
The prosecutor further told the court that the defendant assured that he would provide the suspect to the police pending the settlement of the matter
“The defendant failed to produce the suspect on demand, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 97(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.
It would be recalled that section 97(1) of the law prescribed imprisonment for 7 years for anyone found guilty for perverting the course justice.
The Magistrate, Mr Lateef Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until June 17, for further hearing.(NAN)
