An Abuja High Court on Wednesday, again declined to admit a 32-year-old man, Steven Friday, accused of stabbing his neighbor to bail.
The Police charged Friday with attempted culpable homicide.
Justice M.S Idris in his ruling ordered the further remand of the defendant in the correctional centre.
The judge adjourned the matter until July 6 for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Donatus Abah told the court that Friday, who lives in Lugbe Abuja stabbed his neighbor, Theophilus Edache during an argument.
Abah said Edache lost an arm after the stabbing.
“The victim’s arm was amputated due to injuries he sustained when the defendant stabbed him,” he said.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 229(1) and 248 of the Penal Code Law.
The Defence Counsel, Noah Abdul informed the court that both families of the defendant and victim had met over the matter and that they had tended an apology to the victim.
He said that the defendant’s family also offered to support Edache with N5 million.
Abdul prayed the court to adjourn the case further to enable them conclude their discussions on an out of court settlement.
However, a member of the victim’s family, Mr Joseph Ebiega, informed the court no money was offered by the defendant’s family to his nephew.
“We met on May 23 as a sign of respect to this honorable court but during the meeting, no amount of money was offered as support for Edache as mentioned by the defendant’s lawyer,” he said.(NAN)
