Man to spend 1 year in jail for possession of 1.2kg Cannabis Sativa

Justice Nkeonye Maha of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, has sentenced one Toheeb Yinusa to one year in the Correctional Centre for peddling 1.2kg of Cannabis Sativa.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Maha convicted and sentenced Yinusa following his guilty plea and the evidence tendered against him by the prosecution.

She added that the court considered the stipulation of the law on anyone who pleaded guilty to an offence.

“However, to serve as a deterrent to others, Yinusa is sentenced to one year imprisonment, starting from the date of arrest.

“The dried weed substance found in possession of the convict shall be destroyed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,” Maha held.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mrs A.A. Balogun had told the court that the convict committed the crime on Dec. 4, 2025, at Olodo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Balogun further stated that the NDLEA operatives arrested Yinusa after receiving intelligence report that he was a drug dealer.

According to the prosecutor, the convict was caught in possession of a nylon bag containing 1.2kg of dried substance later confirmed to be Cannabis Sativa.

She said that the offence contravene the provision of Section 11(C ) of the NDLEA Act Cap, N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. (NAN)
