Hunter in court for allegedly giving harmful drug to minor

A 27-year-old hunter, Garba Muhammed, appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mararaba for allegedly administering a harmful drug to a minor.

Muhammed, a resident of Mararaba Karu, pleaded guilty to the charge of cruelty to children, levelled against him.

The prosecutor, Mr Samuel Okoro, told the court that the complainant, Mr Muhammed Auwal, who resides at Mararaba, reported the matter at the Mararaba Police Station on June 14.

Okoro said that the complainant alleged that the defendant on June 6 gave his son Umar Auwal a harmful drug.

The offence, he said, contravened Section 238 of the Penal Code and Section 31 of the Child Rights Act as applicable to Nasarawa state.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Joy Faruk, admitted the defendant to N300, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.

She ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide reliable means of identification.

Faruk adjourned the matter until July 14, for hearing. (NAN)
