A 38-year-old man, Sunday Ogunleye, was on Wednesday docked in an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for alleged child endangerment.
The police charged Ogunleye with endangerment of a minor.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Yomi Osuolale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 17 in Iworoko-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant failed to provide for his 13-year-old son’s upkeep, thereby endangering the boy’s life.
Osuolale said that the defendant picked up his son from his former wife and to stay with him, saying after living with him, the boy got missing.
According to him, the offence contravene the provisions of Section 257(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Oluwafemi Alabi, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
Magistrate Olubunmi Bamidele admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Bamidele said the surety must provide the evidence of three years tax clearance.
She adjourned the case until July 22 for hearing.(NAN)
