A 38-year-old man, Ogunyemi Temitope, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly defrauding a man of N4.8 million.
Temitope, whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of fraud.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence at No.6, Surulere Street, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant defrauded the complainant, Saka Yusuf, by obtaining N4.8 million, under the pretext of procuring traveling documents of United States of America for him and two members of his family.
“The defendant converted the money to personal use instead of fulfilling the agreement between them,” he said.
The prosecutor said that offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code,Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O.Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun government.
She adjourned the case until July 18, for further hearing.(NAN)
