A 30-year-old trader, Ann Attama, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Mararaba, over alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Attama, a resident of Old Karu Road, was charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Mr Ejeh Godwin, told the court that the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Ranguel, reported the matter at the Mararaba Police Station on June 30.
He informed the court that the defendant is an administrator of a WhatsApp contribution group.
The prosecutor, told the court that the complainant contributed the sum of N720,000 with the defendant which was due for collection by December 2025.
Godwin alleged that the defendant only paid the sum of N100,000 to the complainant and converted the remaining balance of N620,000 to her personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Joy Faruk, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
