First Lady reaffirms commitment to Nigerians welfare

The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has reinstated the current administration’s determination to put in place policies and programs aimed at making life better for Nigerians.

This is contained in a statement on Tuesday by Busola Kukoyi, the first lady’s spokesperson.

The first lady said this at the distribution of food items to vulnerable groups in Benin through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) NGO.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the program was part of the first lady’s commitment to social investment scope under the RHI Food Outreach Programmes.

The first lady was represented at the event by the wife of the Vice President and National Vice Chairman of the RHI, Hajia Nana Shettima.

Tinubu pointed out that the food supplies were made possible by a public-spirited company and the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa).

The supporters, according to the first lady, have promised to keep supplying food items on a monthly basis to RHI for onward distribution to Nigerians.

“I am pleased to share with you all that since inception in 2023, the RHI has made significant progress in our efforts to support our people, particularly women and youths, towards building a better life for their families.

“I want to assure you that there will be more activities this year under the five scopes of the RHI, which cover agriculture, education, economic empowerment, health, and social investment.

“These programs aim to further complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of President Tinubu,” the first lady said.

She appealed to the beneficiaries not to sell the food items, as they are intended to support their families.

In his remarks, Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo commended the first lady for her relentless efforts at supporting vulnerable groups across the country.

He acknowledged the role RHI is playing in meeting the needs of the citizens, pledging his government’s support to the administration of Tinubu and the RHI.

The Edo State RHI Coordinator, Mrs. Edesili Anani, also assured that the food items would be distributed to the targeted beneficiaries in the state.

NAN recalled that the Food Outreach Programme of the RHI under its Social Investment Scope was launched on March 8, 2024, in Abuja.

The program is to provide essential food commodities to vulnerable groups and people with disabilities.

In December, 250 elderly citizens in Edo got N250,000 each, including food items and free medical checks from the RHI Elderly Citizens Support Programme.

The program was held simultaneously in all the states of the FCT.

The vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities are beneficiaries of assorted food items across the nation currently.

The train of the Food Outreach Scheme of the RHI is expected to be in Kwara, Kogi, and Abia states simultaneously for similar distributions. (NAN)
