The Kebbi Hisbah Board has commended Dandi Local Government Area for banning drug trafficking, wild celebrations, and gambling.
The board appealed to other local government areas to emulate such community-based moral reforms to facilitate societal transformation.
Director of Shari’ah, Sirajo Kamba, stated this in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
Kamba said the board appreciated the council’s decision to uphold morality and sanitize society.
He acknowledged the bold decision of the council to introduce community rules to promote peace, security, and dignity.
“Key measures include compulsory medical fitness certificates before marriage as well as ban on mixing of men and women at events.
“It prohibited DJs, dancing, and musical entertainment during social gatherings and reckless motorcycle racing during bridal processions.
“Also prohibited is indecent hairstyles and fashions contrary to moral values. The council will also combat gambling, drug abuse, and illicit drug sales,” the director sated.
Kamba praised regulation of engagement ceremonies to curb extravagance.
He commended the ban on obscene language in herbal medicine adverts, adding that the council also prohibited domestic abuse and maltreatment of women.
Kamba prayed to God Almighty to grant the leaders wisdom to implement the measures justly.
“Let me use this medium to call on other local government areas to emulate Dandi by engaging traditional and religious leaders to morally shape the society,” he pleaded.
The director appealed to residents to cooperate and obey the new regulations to enable it achieve the desired goals and objectives.
Kamba stressed that the enforcement must follow law, justice, and due process, and prayed for continued peace, unity, and development in Dandi, Kebbi, and Nigeria at large. (NAN).
