The Police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 33-year-old man before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly obtaining the sum of N233,000 from a complainant by false pretence.
The defendant is standing trial before Magistrate Olufunke Ogun on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in 2017, at Jakande in Ajangbadi, Ojo.
She alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N233, 000 from a lady, Ebube Ezechime, under the pretence of advertising her music on Facebook, YouTube and other social media platforms.
The prosecutor alleged that the representation was false as the defendant bolted with the money and converted the same to his personal use, without the consent of the nominal complainant.
She said that he was eventually arrested by the police and brought to court.
The offences contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Sept. 17, for mention. (NAN).
