The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State has expressed concern over what it described as an unacceptable level of decay in critical sectors of the state’s economy.
The APC, in a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr Olawale Sadare, on Tuesday in Ibadan, urged Gov. Seyi Makinde to take urgent steps to address the situation in the interest of the people.
The party alleged that the administration has failed to meet expectations in the health, education, and other key sectors, despite receiving substantial federal allocations and interventions.
Sadare said the APC’s reaction followed the circulation of a viral video on social media in which an unidentified man was seen lamenting the non-availability of doctors and other medical personnel to attend to a patient at the Adeoyo State Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan.
He said the video has reignited public debate over the state of healthcare delivery in Oyo State.
The party alleged that beyond the regular payment of salaries and pensions, and some projects, there has been little impact on the welfare and well-being of citizens.
On health, the APC claimed that the payment of staff salaries and the rehabilitation of some Primary Health Centres were the only achievements that could be credited to the government.
The APC also expressed concern over the education sector, saying the condition of facilities in most public primary and secondary schools leaves much to be desired, with many classrooms in a deplorable state.
“We are concerned about the likelihood of things getting worse before the expiration of Gov. Makinde’s maximum tenure,” Sadare said.
The opposition party, therefore, urged the governor to shift focus from politics and give priority to fixing the health, education and other critical sectors.
It insisted that residents deserve better management of public resources and improved service delivery across the state. (NAN).
