Kano collaborates with UK DFID on MAFITA scheme for almajiris and physically challenged persons

(Quick News Africa)- Kano State government in collaboration with the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) has launched an empowerment programme named Mafita (solutions). The programme launch attracted 2, 445 participants comprising of physically challenged persons and Almajiris.

 

The programme aims at training disadvantaged youths and women in various vocational skills such as leather works, auto mechanics, tailoring, interior decoration and crafts etc as means of enhancing means of livelihood..

 

The Kano State Commissioner of Budget and Planning Hajiya Zubaida Damakka Abubakar during the official flag off of the programmes  said the government had selected Rumfa College and Dawakin Tofa as designated vocational training centres for the programme. She further added that the government is ensuring a hitch fre programme by providing the necessary support for 2, 445 apprentices, 600 master craftsmen and 25 cluster champions selected for the programme.

 

Mallam Muhammad Garba , the State Commissioner for information who is aloso the Chairman of the Scheme said that the government had trained over 20, 000 youths and women  since May 29, 2015. According to him, the scheme was meant to enhance standards of living for physically challenged persons in the state.

 

The Mafita programme is currently being run in Kano, Kaduna and Katsina states
