Speaker of the Kano State house of assembly, Kabiru Rurum, on Tuesday denied rumors being peddled that he has collected a N100 million bribe from Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, as an incentive to suspend the probe of Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano.
Rurum contested that the intervention of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, the Northern Governors Forum and other notable Nigerians to stop the probe was channeled through the state governor and not directly to the state house of assembly.
In his words, “we only received a letter from the governor because it is a tradition that when such things happen, the governor gets in touch with us as one of the three arms of government.
“Therefore, the governor forwarded his request letter to us appealing for the suspension of the investigation on behalf of all the concerned citizens, and we did for the best interest of Kano citizens, as well as every citizen in Kano.”
The speaker described the rumor as the work of his enemies who want to tarnish his image in his village, as well as in Kano State.
According to him, the allegation is also targeted at creating tension and chaos among the lawmakers and to ridicule the personality of Dangote.
