The immediate past acting Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Alhaji Biola Lawal, has described the passage of Alhaji Wada Maida as an exit of another media giant.
Lawal, in a condolence message on Tuesday in Abuja, expressed sadness over the demise of the former Managing Director of NAN, Maida.
āThis is to express my heartfelt grief over the demise of our amiable and compassionate former Managing Director and former Editor-In-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria, Alhaji Wada Maida.
āAlhajiās death marks the exit of another giant from the Nigerian media industry and a big loss to humanity.
āWada Maida was a great motivator and an administrator per excellence.
āHe was a good leader, who appreciated and encouraged his subordinates; his era, as NAN MD, was progressive.
āAs a veteran journalist, he excelled as NAN Correspondent in London, as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the then Head of State (Gen. Muhammadu Buhari), as NAN Editor-In-Chief and as NAN MD for nine years.
āAbove all, he was a good Muslim who assisted the Deen of ALLAH with all his capabilities.
āHe would come down from his high office in NAN House, Abuja to join Salat in Jammah alongside other Muslim members of staff in the Masjid.
āMay Allah forgives and have mercy on him,āā the statement read in part.
Lawal prayed that Almighty Allah grants the family, left behind by the deceased, the fortitude to bear this colossal loss.
Maida died on Monday night in Abuja at the age of 70, and until his death, he was the Chairman, Board of Directors of NAN.
He had also served as theĀ Managing Director of the Agency from 1994 to 2004.
