Wife of Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa, has called on parents and teachers not to relent in instilling ethical values on children.
Dame Okowa made this known at a one-day seminar for Diocesan secondary school students and teachers with the title, ‘Salvaging Our Future Leaders Through Counseling And Rewards For Academic Excellence’.
The event which took to place at Ika Grammar school, Owa, Ika North East Local Government Area, was organized by the former Permanent Secretary, Delta North Senatorial District, Post Primary Education Board, Agbor, Mrs Ngozi Bamah, who clocked 60 recently.
According to the governor’s wife, education was not a scam, stressing: “As an educationist, I can tell you that education is very important for anyone that wants to be useful and relevant to himself, the family and the society in general.”
She urged parents, caregivers and teachers to continue to instil the ethical values which Africans were known for on the children.
In her remarks, the organizer, Mrs Ngozi Bamah, who is also an evangelist, noted that the plan for the seminar was borne out of a serious concern for the future of Delta and nation, Nigeria.
The ceremony also witnessed series of lectures on topics such as the menace of sexual assault/abuse in secondary schools, combating drug abuse/addiction among students among others.
