Prof. Charles Eze, Vice-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), has called for more support to Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) to effectively tackle cultism among youths.

Eze made the call on Thursday during the orientation for fresh students of the institution ahead of matriculation on Oct. 16.

He said that what POCACOV was doing through its advocacy programme, mentoring and reorientation was commendable.

“I call on stakeholders to give wider support to the POCACOV initiative to enable it to achieve more for a better society,” he said.

Eze also commended the Nigeria Police on the POCACOV initiative, describing it as a well-designed community-driven programme that has direct impact on the youths.

In his presentation, titled: “Road Map to be a Champion”, the National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, thanked the vice chancellor and the institution for believing in Nigeria Police through POCACOV.

Amaraizu also charged the fresh students to be champions by shunning cultism, violence and substance abuse.

He reminded them of the need to be law abiding and to make right choices on who would-be their friends to avoid being pressured to join a cult and other criminal gangs capable of stopping them from becoming champions.

“We have to choose our friends wisely; we also need to be focused and purposeful.

“You also need to pay attention to the reason that brought us to school and be the champion of your dream,” he said.

Highlight of the event was the handing over of POCACOV campaign materials to the vice chancellor by Amaraizu. (NAN)
