KANO State governor, Dr Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has called on indigent students in the state, enjoying his administration’s foreign scholarship, to vote for the All Progressives Congres (APC) in the forthcoming general election, advising their parents to do same, so that their academic pursuits will not be terminated midstream.
This was contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Halilu Dantiye, the governor’s director of press. A copy of the statement was made available to journalists on Sunday, in Kano.
The governor made the call during a meeting with some of the 734 students in New Delhi, sponsored by his administration for mostly postgraduate programmes in India.
Governor Kwankwaso maintained that should any party other than the APC win the governorship election in Kano, their scholarships would be withdrawn, thereby terminating their dreams and retarding the educational development of the state.
His words “so far, we have spent over N14 billion on the foreign scholarship which is far more that what any state government or even the Federal government has spent on overseas scholarship award. You must not allow this effort to be in vain”,
He stated that the visit is to monitor the progress made by the students and their challenges for possible remedy, pointing out that so far, he is impressed with their performance, urging them to keep the spirit alive.
The Kano state students in India are part of the 2,650 sponsored by the Kwankwaso administration to study in various universities in 14 countries within the last three and a half years.
The governor was accompanied by the Nigerian Ambassador to Malaysia earlier held a similar session with 229 Kano State sponsored students in Malaysia at The Banque Hall of the Royale Chullan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and another 59 in China.
The governor is being accompanied on the week-long trip by the Secretary to Kano state Government, Alh. Rabi’u Sulaiman Bichi, and the Executive Secretary, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alh. Ali Ahmad Yako and Kano state Scholarship Board, Alh. Usman Sule Riruwai.
