Tenure expiration: Heads of Service take over LGAs in Adamawa

Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has directed Heads of Service in the 21 local government areas (LGAs) in the state to take over affairs of the councils.

Fintiri gave the directive in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, on Thursday in Yola, following the expiration of tenure of elected local government chairmen in Adamawa.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the tenure of the elected chairmen and councilors expired on Wednesday.

NAN also reports that the outgoing chairmen and their councilors were sworn into office on Dec. 9, 2019, after emerging winners at the council polls.

Fintiri thanked the outgone executives for their outstanding performance and dedication to duty.

“Your services to the people and the state are commendable. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and my humble self are proud of you.

“You will go down in history as part of the success story of our social re-engineering process in Adamawa, especially in our rural and urban renewal drive,” Fintiri said.

He commended them for identifying with the culture of good governance, exemplified by his administration by paying adequate attention to the needs of the people at the grassroots,

The governor further commended them for strengthening democracy in the state.

“You are therefore, directed to hand over to the Head of Service in your respective councils, who will take charge of administration pending the appointment of caretaker committees.

“Consequently, all affected officials are legally required to vacate their offices by the close of business on Wednesday, Dec. 8.

“Heads of Service in the 21 LGAs should be upright in their dealings as career civil servants,” Fintiri said.

He explained that local governments were are not only the closest to the people, but possess the capacity to be more impactful in fulfilling the wishes and aspirations of the people at the grassroots.

Fintiri assured people of the state that his administration would continue to give priority to staff salaries and welfare, as well as projects for the greater benefit of all citizens. (NAN)
