Awka, Anambra State – The Anambra State Police Command has refuted circulating social media claims asserting that Umunze in Orumba South LGA serves as the headquarters of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and that the Police consider the town a “No-Go-Area.”

Expressing sympathy for a reported kidnapping incident lasting four days in the area, the Police have clarified that the assertions attributed to the victim are unfounded and devoid of merit.

Contrary to the alleged status of Umunze, the Police-led Forward Operating Base in Aguata recently dismantled an insurgent camp at Ogbunka near Umunze. The operation resulted in the rescue of three kidnapped victims, including a priest, and the recovery of nine stolen vehicles and three pump-action guns. Additionally, three criminals were apprehended. These successful operations challenge any characterization of Umunze as a “No-Go-Area.”

The Divisional Police Headquarters in Umunze is operating at full capacity, and the Police continue to fulfill their responsibilities to the local populace. While acknowledging insurgent activities to the south of Umunze in a neighboring state, the Police are engaged in collaborative efforts to eradicate such threats.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, assures the citizens of Anambra State that their safety remains the utmost priority of the Police Command, a commitment that is unwavering.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, issued this statement in Awka, emphasizing the command’s dedication to ensuring public safety.
