Abuja, Nigeria – The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has praised the collaborative efforts of police officers and operatives from various security agencies for their vital role in ensuring the security of elections conducted in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States. The IGP commended the dedication and diligence exhibited by security personnel during the electoral process, highlighting the productivity and commendable nature of their efforts.
Despite initial threat assessments and expected challenges, the IGP underscored that the electoral process in the three states unfolded seamlessly. He acknowledged the exceptional commitment of security personnel in preserving law and order, safeguarding the electoral process, and ensuring the safety of citizens.
Nevertheless, the IGP acknowledged isolated incidents that occurred during the elections. In response, he directed the Electoral Offences Desk Officers, supervised by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, to launch immediate investigations into these occurrences.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, issued this statement on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, expressing gratitude to all security agencies involved in election security management. The IGP appreciated their collaborative efforts in securing the electoral process. He urged officers to maintain their commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties. Emphasizing the importance of adherence to guidelines, the rule of law, and standard operating procedures of their respective agencies, the IGP highlighted the critical role these factors play in fostering a more secure democratic institution in Nigeria.
