The Lagos State Police Command reported on Saturday that three men were arrested in the Shasha, Akowonjo area of the state for disturbing public peace and violating laws regulating the use of speakers in public spaces.

The arrested individuals, identified as Julius Osimirin, 43, Isiaka Kabiru, 16, and Ajewole Ajugba, 42, were apprehended for staging a street carnival in defiance of existing regulations governing the use of speakers in public places in Lagos State.

The arrest was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) at approximately 12:23 p.m. on Abatti Street, Shasha, where the suspects were preparing for their carnival. The information was disclosed through an official statement issued by the state Public Police Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

Hundeyin highlighted that the arrest followed the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, instructing the RRS Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, to take legal action against any individual attempting to violate these laws. CP Fayoade had previously met with carnival organizers, advising them to secure a venue for their event and avoid disrupting public peace by closing down streets.

Upon the completion of investigations, the three suspects will face legal proceedings. In related efforts to combat noise pollution, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency engaged with religious institution leaders to discuss measures to curtail noise pollution from places of worship. The meeting, held at Alausa, followed earlier discussions with nightclub and bar owners as part of the agency’s campaign against noise pollution in the state.
